John Dramani Mahama is the President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama is the President of Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has stated that no government official involved in corruption under his administration will be shielded, stressing that his commitment to fighting graft is non-negotiable.

Addressing leaders of the Christian Council of Ghana during a courtesy call on him on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, President Mahama said his stance aligns with the Council’s position on family and social values.

He recalled that even before assuming office, he made it clear that his government would elevate the fight against corruption to a new level, emphasising that the decision is not driven by personal motives but by the need to restore credibility and public trust.

Five key policies of President Mahama that are winning public praise

“Before I became president, I had indicated that we’re going to take the fight against corruption to a whole new level. And it’s not anything personal against anybody,” he said.

President Mahama observed that one of Ghana’s biggest challenges in tackling corruption is the tendency for accountability efforts to start only after a government leaves office.

According to him, this often leads to accusations of political persecution from previous administrations.

“Our problem in the fight against corruption is that it is always post-regime corruption that we fight,” he noted.

“And when we start investigating the cases of corruption, the previous government states that, ‘You are witch-hunting us; this is political persecution,’” he added.

The president stated that his administration will not follow that pattern, reiterating that officials will be held accountable while in office, not after they leave.

He revealed that he has repeatedly warned his ministers and appointees during Cabinet meetings about the consequences of misconduct.

“I have served notice to my ministers, every day at Cabinet meetings: woe betide any of my appointees who brings a scandal. I will hang them on a tree,” he declared, signalling a zero-tolerance approach to corruption.

He affirmed that the only way to restore public confidence is through firm, impartial, and proactive action against corruption, regardless of who is involved.
