The Director of Legal Affairs for the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gary Nimako has advised the government to station military men permanently at mining sites in order for the fight to be fruitful.

Gary Nimako gave this advice during a panel discussion on JoyNew’s Newsfile on how the fight against galamsey in Ghana can be effective.

“I think we should permanently station the military at the mining sites. If we keep shifting cultivation, they will continue coming back and the fight won’t be effective,” he advised.

The private legal practitioner questioned why citizens decided to mine in waterbodies and forest reserves while also blaming politicians for granting interviews shifting blame against each party when the important issue at hand is to solve the issue at hand. He also emphasized that the fight against galamsey should not be politicized.

He admonished both the NPP and the NDC to work together and fight against galamsey and desist from shifting blame.

It would be recalled that a Journalist and the Eastern Regional Correspondent of Multimedia Group Limited (MGL), Kofi Siaw confirmed that illegal miners deified the security personnel and returned to the Brim River to engage in their mining activities.

This disclosure from the journalist follows after a Journalist and Documentary Film Maker, identified as Edem Srem Sai shared some drone photos from the Brim River at Anyinam giving an update on the situation after deploying the military to the sites.

According to Edem Srem Sai, the illegal miners in the community have gone back to mine in the waterbodies barely 48 hours after armed soldiers chased them away and burnt some Changfans.

During an interview with Kofi Siaw, he confirmed that the illegal miners have gone back to the Brim River to mine.

In relation to this, Gary Nimako has advised that military men should be deployed permanently to these sites to help fight against illegal mining.
