The Tafo and Atasemanso Circuit Courts have remanded 136 suspects in connection with attacks on personnel of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS).

According to a police brief, the suspects were among 486 individuals arrested during a joint police and military operation following assaults on NAIMOS officials, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) staff, and journalists.

The suspects were screened by security officials, and those found culpable were arraigned. The remaining individuals, including juveniles, students, teachers, nurses, and other professionals, were released on enquiry bail after verification.

The 136 remanded suspects are expected to reappear in court on November 28, 2025. Additionally, 21 foreign nationals intercepted during the operation have been detained and will be handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further action.

Due to congestion at the Kumasi Central Prisons, 132 of the remanded suspects will be transferred to the Sunyani Central Prisons. Arrangements are underway to transport them under escort using two Black Maria vehicles.

The arrests followed a dawn swoop on November 12, 2025, across parts of the Ashanti, Ahafo, and Volta Regions. The operation covered areas including Dwdwene, Obuasi, and Anwona in Ashanti; Ehi in Volta; and Hwediem, Goaso, Kenyase, and Mahami in Ahafo.
