The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has announced that it is waiving the usual one-month waiting period for new NHIS enrollees and members whose cards have expired for more than three months.

The waiver will run throughout the NHIS Active Month, from now until 14 December 2025.

The NHIA says the move is part of efforts to improve access to healthcare and increase active membership on the National Health Insurance Scheme.

With this waiver, anyone who signs up for the NHIS or renews an expired membership during the Active Month will receive immediate access to NHIS services, instead of waiting a month as required previously.

According to the Authority, this special initiative aims to make it easier for people to stay active on the scheme so that no one is left behind when seeking healthcare.

The public is encouraged to take advantage of the opportunity by visiting any NHIS district office, using the MyNHIS App, or dialling the NHIS mobile short code *929# to renew their membership. Individuals can also subscribe to the Auto-Renewal feature for added convenience.

The NHIA urged especially those whose membership has expired for over three months to renew quickly so they can continue enjoying affordable and quality healthcare.
