Former Ghana international, Augustine Arhinful has blamed the Black Stars’ defeat to Japan on the absence of certain key players.

According to Augustine Arhinful, the presence of Thomas Partey, Kudus Mohammed and captain Jordan Ayew would have easily tilted things in favor of the Black Stars against the Japanese team.

The Black Stars on Friday, November 14, 2025, lost 2-0 to Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup at the Toyota Stadium.

“If the likes of Partey, Kudus, and Jordan Ayew played against Japan, we wouldn’t have lost and it was clear in the game,” he said in an interview with TV3.

Augustine Arhinful also described the outcome of the game as a fair result.

“The results are never in doubt. What we observed here, [the] 2-0, is a fair result. It could have been worse, looking at the number of shots that they [Japan] had in the second half.”

“I’ll still maintain that we should not take these matches for granted because we’ve known for the past two, three months that we’ll be playing South Korea and Japan,” he said.
