In a significant move to safeguard national revenue, Energy Minister John Jinapor has announced the establishment of a special committee to scrutinise all revenue assurance contracts signed by the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

The minister issued a stern warning that contracts found to be unfavourable or non-performing will be swiftly revised or terminated altogether.

The decision underscores the government’s heightened focus on fiscal discipline and maximising revenue collection within the energy sector.

The review will assess the value-for-money, effectiveness, and overall fitness of existing agreements with third-party vendors tasked with securing revenue for the state-owned power distributor.

“The formation of this committee is a proactive step to ensure that every contract held by ECG is in the best interest of the Ghanaian people,” the Minister stated.

“We will not hesitate to revise or abrogate agreements that do not meet our standards of performance and fiscal responsibility.”

The move is expected to bring clarity and accountability to ECG’s partnership agreements, which are crucial for improving the company’s financial health.

The review aligns with broader, ongoing efforts to reduce revenue leaks and ensure the sustainability of the power sector.

The specific composition of the committee and a timeline for its findings are anticipated to be announced in the coming days, he said.
