Member of Parliament for Effia, Isaac Boamah-Nyarko, has expressed regret that he was unable to ask key questions during the vetting of Chief Justice nominee, Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, due to the Minority’s walkout.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Boamah-Nyarko disclosed that he had prepared three major questions for the nominee before the disruption occurred.

According to him, his first question focused on a petition allegedly submitted to the President seeking the removal of the Acting Chief Justice.

He said he wanted to know whether Justice Baffoe-Bonnie had received the petition, whether he had been given the opportunity to respond, and whether the existence of such a petition could affect his confirmation.

Boamah-Nyarko added that his second question dealt with possible conflicts of interest. He explained that as Acting Chief Justice, Justice Baffoe-Bonnie had the authority to empanel judges to hear cases, including matters in which he might have a personal interest.

“This raises important legal questions about whether it was proper for an Acting Chief Justice to preside over or influence cases that could personally benefit him,” he said, suggesting that the President could have avoided potential conflicts by appointing a different person to act as Chief Justice before confirming Justice Baffoe-Bonnie’s nomination.

The MP said his final question would have examined decisions made by Justice Baffoe-Bonnie in his acting role and whether he believed any rulings by his predecessor were wrongly decided.

Boamah-Nyarko stressed that these issues were vital to promoting transparency and integrity within Ghana’s judicial system and expressed disappointment that the Minority’s walkout prevented the vetting process from addressing them.
