NFL Fox Sports analyst Jonathan Vilma has been slammed by television viewers for seemingly forcing in two ‘6-7’ jokes during his interview with Donald Trump.

The president attended Sunday’s NFL game between the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders near DC on Sunday to commemorate the ‘Salute to Service’ initiative across the league.

After taking part in a halftime enlistment ceremony for incoming military members, Trump then headed down to the Fox Sports booth to join Vilma and Kenny Albert to talk about football in the third quarter.

It was there that Vilma, a Super Bowl winner with the New Orleans Saints in 2004, appeared to take his opportunity to force in the viral joke among Gen-Z.

Discussing Trump’s time playing as a tight end in high school football, Vilma said to the President: ‘How many touchdowns did you get? Six, seven..?’

Trump, apparently unaware of the underlying meaning of Vilma’s remark, laughed as he admitted that he didn’t score any.

A little later in the discussion, the trio were discussing how hard and fast quarterbacks can pass the ball in today’s game. Vilma said to Trump: ‘That’s how you could’ve played tight end, right? You definitely would’ve had like six, seven touchdowns there.’

The ‘6-7’ joke is a viral internet meme that has no defined meaning. Some say it came from the song by rapper Skrilla, called ‘Doot Doot (6 7)’ and then became popularized on TikTok. The joke is that it because it means nothing, it can be inserted into any conversation without people realizing.

But plenty of television viewers did on Sunday and while the meaning of the joke wasn’t necessarily mocking Trump personally, some felt that given Vilma should have been more respectful given he was talking to the president.

‘Jonathan Vilma gets the opportunity to have the president of the United States in the booth with him and what does he do with that opportunity? Makes constant 6-7 jokes,’ one fan wrote on X.

Another said: ‘Jonathan Vilma trying to make a “6-7” joke TWICE during an interview with the president was the cringiest thing ever.’

A different viewer posted: ‘Jonathan Vilma 6-7ing the president on an NFL Broadcast not once but twice omg that was terrible.’

Trump appeared to enjoy his time in the booth with Vilma and Albert and was impressed to learn Vilma, 43, had won a Super Bowl. They talked about the hopes of the Commanders team and, while likely not realizing the ‘6-7’ jokes inserted into their chat, Trump opened up on his love of sports.

‘I played tight end, I loved playing football,’ he said. ‘It’s a microcosm of life, it’s sort of like life. The good, the bad and the ugly.

‘But you can equate sports with life, you have the triumph and you have the problems and you have to get through the problems to hit the triumphs and you can never quit, you can never give up.’

As for the game itself, the Commanders were blown away 44-22 by the Detroit Lions, with the Washington team falling to 3-7.

Starting quarterback Jayden Daniels was missing from the game after dislocating his elbow last week. Marcus Mariota took his place.

‘The backup quarterback (Marcus Mariota) is a good quarterback and he has some very good games,’ Trump said in the broadcast booth. ‘The first string quarterback (Daniels) has potential to be a great quarterback, he has got to stop the injuries somehow.’

Fox Sports has been offered the chance to comment by the Daily Mail.
