Reports reaching GhanaWeb show that a fire outbreak at the Abofu Junction in the Achimota area of Accra has left several shops affected and properties worth thousands of cedis destroyed.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire outbreak started from the shops near the Shell Filling Station and adjacent to the Ghana Media School, where about seven shops on the stretch were caught in the blaze, even as the fire continues to rage.

Videos sighted by GhanaWeb showed thick black plumes of smoke billowing into the sky while people watched, helpless.

At the time of filing this report, there was no confirmed report as to whether the Ghana Fire Service has responded to the fire.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.

Authorities have yet to provide details on casualties, the extent of property damage, or if the blaze has been brought under control.
