    By Jeff Zimmerman

In one of boxing’s most anticipated fights of the year, WBC Interim Super Welterweight champ Vergil Ortiz Jr (24-0, 22 KOs) out of Grand Prairie, TX put the boxing world on notice in his backyard as he blasted out Orlando’s Erickson Lubin (27-3, 18 KOs) in under two rounds at the sold out Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas and live on DAZN worldwide.

The first round was a feel out round; however Ortiz did find a home for the right hand early in the round and connected with right, left combo as the round ended. In round two, Ortiz went right to work and powered forward with big right hands until he unleashed a flurry of right and left hands that went through the high guard of Lubin and knocked him out on his feet. Referee James Green jumped in immediately and wrapped up Lubin to protect him from any more damage. The time of the stoppage was 1:30 of round two of the scheduled twelve as Ortiz Jr retained his WBC Interim super welterweight belt.

Ortiz Jr, however, has bigger fish to fry and his name is Boots Ennis who was in attendance along with his promoter Eddie Hearn. Ortiz Jr called over Boots in the ring and they went back and forth with DAZN’s Chris Mannix handling the back and forth that got the crowd fired up and lasted longer than the actual fight.

Ortiz Jr. told Fightnews.com during media day that he was looking to be legendary and be talked about fifty years from now. With fights like tonight he is on his way. He downplayed the super fight with the former 147lb champ leading, Boots Ennis. But this fight was the worst kept secret in boxing and although it won’t be for a title, it will undoubtedly be one of the best fights in 2026.

And although Ortiz Jr. still does not have a world title to his name, he is no doubt one of the most feared fighters in the sport and must see TV.

Main Undercard Results From Fort Worth
