A recent episode of The Clarity Zone Podcast, hosted by a media personality Nedu Wazobia has sparked widespread conversation online after a guest spoke candidly about the growing concern of HIV/AIDS in Lagos and other parts of Nigeria.

During the discussion, the guest highlighted alarming statistics of HIV prevalence across several Nigerian states, naming Rivers, Benue, Akwa Ibom, and Anambra among those with the highest number of people living with the virus.

The speaker also discussed ongoing efforts to raise awareness and foster connection among people living with HIV, introducing the concept of positive bondship, a safe space where HIV-positive individuals can meet, share experiences, and build healthy relationships.

Addressing the stigma and denial surrounding the virus, the guest noted that many Nigerians, including influential figures, live with HIV in silence due to fear of discrimination and public judgment.

“Rivers State has over 200,000. The next is Akwa Ibom with over 100,000, and, funny enough, Anambra State also has about 100,000. We’re trying so hard to curb it. That’s why we have positive bondshi, if you’re HIV positive, you can meet your fellow HIV positive. But on this part of the Island, people just believe being positive doesn’t mean you can’t be with someone who’s negative. A lot of people are in denial. Some say, ‘Anything can kill a man, no be to die?’ Even our politicians, some of them are HIV positive, but most times people don’t know.” The guest said

The revelation has since stirred strong reactions on social media, with many users praising the speaker for addressing a topic often considered taboo in Nigeria.

While others called for increased awareness campaigns and better healthcare access for those living with HIV.
