After facing heavy criticism on social media, Ghanaian Kumawood actor Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as LilWin, has explained why he has not been able to premiere his much-anticipated movie featuring the late Highlife legend, Daddy Lumba.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb on November 5, 2025, LilWin revealed that the late musician expressed interest in acting with him back in 2017 after commending him (LilWin) for his creativity and impact in the movie industry.

LilWin explained that while shooting his “MeKum Me Ho Ma Nipa” movie, he encountered several challenges because Daddy Lumba was not in good health at the time.

“I was told Daddy wanted to meet me, so I went to see him in Accra. It was there that he told me how much he loved my movies and wanted to shoot with me. When he said that, I rushed back to Kumasi and gathered a crew. The movie features Bill Asamoah, Akrobeto, Vivian Jill and Great Ampong.

“During that period, Lumba wasn’t feeling well, so Odo Broni was the one who brought him on set. After we finished shooting each day, she would take him back home. Because Daddy wasn’t well, he usually woke up around 3 PM and got on set by 4 PM,” he added.

LilWin further recounted that during filming, an industry colleague made a comment that appeared to upset the late musician and changed his attitude toward the project.

“While we were shooting the movie, a star who came to visit Daddy said he was wasting his time because there was no money in the movie industry. After hearing that, you could see he was hurt but he didn’t say he wanted to stop shooting,” LilWin narrated.

According to LilWin, after the shoot was completed, the late Highlife legend later called for a reshoot, claiming his hair had not been properly styled.

“After everything, I gave him a copy to watch so we could fix a date for the premiere. When he finished watching, he called me to say it was a nice movie. The next day, he called again and said his hair wasn’t braided well and that we needed to reshoot,” LilWin said.

“Daddy said a lot of women loved him and he didn’t look good in the movie, so we should redo it. I was shocked. I even tried several times to convince him that his hair looked perfect for the role he played. It took me eight years to try to convince him but he still didn’t agree,” he added.

Despite the late musician’s reservations, LilWin said he is still considering releasing the movie to honour Daddy Lumba’s legacy and his contributions to Ghana’s creative arts industry.

“I have seen what’s happening on social media and I’m surprised because Daddy contributed greatly to the music industry and such things shouldn’t happen. I’ll release the movie any day between tomorrow and Monday,” LilWin stated.
