The Prince and Princess of Wales have extended their sympathies to the victims and families of those caught up in the horrifying Huntingdon train stabbings.

The knife rampage happened on a London North Eastern Railway (LNER) Doncaster to London King’s Cross train on Saturday evening.

Police revealed on Sunday that 11 people were treated in hospital. One rail employee remains in a life-threatening condition, while five patients have been discharged.

The royal couple released a statement through Kensington Palace expressing their thoughts for those affected and praising the actions of first responders and train staff.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson said: ‘I spoke to The Prince of Wales this morning and he also asked me to express his and the Princess of Wales thoughts for the families and friends of all those impacted by the horrific events last night near Huntingdon.

‘He also wishes for me to express his thoughts are also with the first responders and train staff that acted so swiftly.’

William and Kate also sent their symapathies to those impacted by Hurricane Melissa, the category 5 storm that left a trail of destruction across the Carribean.

The spokesperson added: ‘The Prince and Princess have also been following the terrible events in Jamaica over the last week.

‘He will be personally donating to the relief efforts to support those impacted by Hurricane Melissa.’

It was confirmed this week that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have moved into their new ‘forever home’ – making them close neighbours with the disgraced Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

The couple have vacated Adelaide Cottage in Windsor’s Home Park to set up residence in the Grade II-listed Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park.

Rebecca English, the Daily Mail’s royal editor, previously revealed that the Wales family were aiming to move into their new eight-bedroom Georgian mansion before Bonfire Night, and it is understood they relocated during half term.

William and Catherine, both 43, have been keen to provide a ‘fresh start’ for their three children: Prince George, 12, who will start senior school next autumn, Princess Charlotte, ten, and seven-year-old Prince Louis.

The Waleses show of support for the Huntingdon stab victims followed a message from King Charles and Queen Camilla earlier in the day on the Royal Family’s Instagram page.

Signed Charles R, the post said: ‘My wife and I were truly appalled and shocked to hear of the dreadful knife attack that took place on board a train in Cambridgeshire last night.

‘Our deepest sympathy and thoughts are with all those affected, and their loved ones.

‘We are particularly grateful to the emergency services for their response to this awful incident.’

Two British men were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following the attack on Saturday night in coach J of the LNER service from Doncaster to King’s Cross.

Police say the incident does not appear to be terror related. One of the men has since been released without further action.

The attacker is believed to have said ‘the Devil’s not going to win’ as he came at passengers with a knife.

The CCTV taken at 7.41pm on Saturday from a local business shows one passenger seemingly fall beneath the train amid the panic as a crowd of passengers try to escape the knifeman.

Seconds later, the attacker calmly walks down the platform and then jumps over a fence before walking through a car park. A large blade is clearly seen in his hand.

Police revealed on Sunday morning how 11 people were treated in hospital and two remained in a life-threatening condition, while four had been discharged.

Witnesses have been describing the horrific events which left passengers cowering in toilets for safety – while the carriages were spattered in blood.
