Ghana international Alexander Djiku delivered a standout performance for Fenerbahce on Thursday, October 24, 2024, as the Turkish giants secured a 1-1 draw against Manchester United in their Europa League Round 3 clash.

The game, held at a packed stadium, saw the Black Stars defender rise to the occasion as Fenerbahce’s defensive rock, putting in an impressive shift that earned him the highest rating among both teams.

Starting as one of two centre-backs for Fenerbahce, Djiku played the entire 90 minutes, providing a solid and commanding presence in defence.

His performance was nothing short of outstanding, with the Ghana international receiving a rating of 7.8, the best by any player on the field, outshining even Manchester United’s star-studded lineup.

Throughout the game, Djiku showcased his defensive prowess, making key contributions that helped Fenerbahce hold their own against the English side. He recorded three crucial clearances, blocked one shot, made five interceptions, and successfully executed seven tackles, continuously thwarting Manchester United’s attempts to break through.

Fenerbahce initially found themselves on the back foot when Christian Eriksen put Manchester United ahead in the 15th minute.

However, Allan Saint-Maximin’s brilliance created an opportunity for Youssef En-Nesyri, who found the back of the net in the 49th minute to equalize for the Turkish side.

Alexander Djiku’s commanding performance in defence was pivotal in keeping Fenerbahce in the contest, particularly in the closing stages as Manchester United pushed for a winner.

His timely tackles and interceptions ensured that his team held on to secure a valuable point in the Europa League group stage.
