Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus was involved in a heated confrontation with Newcastle United’s Joelinton during Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat in the Carabao Cup round of 16 at St. James’ Park on Wednesday October 29, 2025.

Kudus, who came off the bench in the second half, was brought down by a rough challenge from Joelinton, sparking an immediate reaction from the Spurs midfielder.

The incident led to a brief pushing and shoving exchange between the two players before teammates and officials intervened.

Referee Chris Kavanagh handed both Kudus and Joelinton yellow cards for their involvement, although several Spurs players protested that the Newcastle midfielder should have been shown a red card for the initial tackle.

Despite his limited minutes, Kudus delivered an efficient performance, completing 12 of his 13 passes (92%) and maintaining a perfect 6/6 record in the final third.

However, he could not prevent Spurs’ elimination as goals from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade sealed Newcastle’s place in the quarter-finals.

The defeat ends Tottenham’s Carabao Cup run, while Newcastle continue their impressive form in the competition, advancing to the last eight for the fourth consecutive season, where they will face Fulham.
