Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) Executive Council Member, Ernest Thompson has claimed that the Black Stars can match both England and Brazil at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to the Ernest Thompson, the Black Stars have a huge potential ahead of the World Cup and can go toe to toe with some of the best teams in the world.
The former Black Stars management committee member in an interview with Sporty FM welcomed England and Brazil as possible opponents for Ghana ahead of Spain, Portugal and France.

“I wouldn’t like us to play Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and most probably France. England, I don’t mind. When we meet England, it’s a different ballgame; it’s like a colonial master and his subject who wants to fight. We learned football from them, and I think we can rise up.”
“Brazil play just like us, with individual flair and creativity. But we didn’t play the right tactics. We defended too high and left spaces at the back. Ronaldo saw it and took advantage. It all depends on getting the tactics right,” Ernest Thompson said.
The group stage draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States of America, Canada and Mexico has been scheduled for December 5, 2025, at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
