Young star Terrence Nii Okan Mensah Adjetey, widely known as Terry Bonchaka, continues to be celebrated for his impact on Ghana’s music scene.

Ghanaian musician Kay Smooth has taken this time to reflect on the life and legacy of the legend who forever changed the rhythm of Ghana’s music.

In an emotional conversation on GTV’s Memorable Breakfast Show, Kay Smooth spoke with deep admiration about Terry’s creative energy and wild stagecraft that lit up every crowd.

He described Terry as “a fearless performer who made the stage his playground and turned every show into a festival.”

Kay Smooth, born Isaac Nii Adotey Pappoe, is a Ghanaian singer, songwriter, and performer known for his silky-smooth vocals and emotionally rich songs. As a fellow artist, his tribute carried extra weight.

He said Terry’s originality and confidence inspired a wave of young performers to step up their craft.

Terry Bonchaka, born Terrence Nii Okan Mensah Adjetey, burst onto the scene in the early 2000s with his energetic fusion of hiplife beats and street charisma. With hits like “Pulele” and “Lomna Va,” he brought a new flavor to Ghanaian music—one that celebrated local culture with youthful energy.

Sadly, on October 29, 2003, after performing at the University of Ghana’s Akuafo Hall Week celebration, Terry’s life was cut short in a car accident. He was only 21.

Kay Smooth’s reflection focused not on the loss but the impact. “Terry opened the door for stage performance in Ghana,” he said. “Before him, most artists just sang; after him, performance became art—energy, fashion, movement, and spirit.”

He urged fans to keep Terry’s memory alive through music, video clips, and stories. For Kay Smooth, Terry’s influence still shapes the sound and passion of today’s performers, proof that true artistry never dies.

While honoring Terry Bonchaka’s legacy, Kay Smooth is also keeping his own fire burning.

His latest single, “Seaman Jorley,” is out now on all major platforms—a vibrant, danceable track that blends Afrobeat grooves with smooth vocals and catchy Ghanaian street energy.

The song shows Kay Smooth’s versatility and reminds fans that he’s not just a voice of remembrance, but a creator still pushing boundaries in Ghana’s modern music scene.

Terry Bonchaka’s flame continues to burn through artists like Kay Smooth—proof that legends don’t fade, they pass the torch.
