The Leadership of Parliament, led by the Majority Leader in Parliament, Mr Mahama Ayariga, on Friday visited the residence of the late former First Lady, Mrs Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, to commiserate with the family.

Mr Ayariga was accompanied by other Members of Parliament (MPs) from both sides in Parliament as well as the Leadership of Parliamentary Service.

The MPs also signed the Book of Condolence that had been opened at the residence of the late Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings in her honour.

During an engagement with the family, the leadership of Parliamentary Service and the MPs, in a sober reflection of the life of the former First Lady, described her as a trailblazer and pillar of women’s empowerment.

According to them, the late Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings played a pioneering important role in providing opportunities for women in entrepreneurship, education, and community development through the 31st December Women’s Movement, which she championed.

For his part, the Majority Chief Whip, Mr Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, said he was shocked at the demise of the former First Lady, while the MPs pledged their support to the family during the period of mourning.

The late Agyeman-Rawlings, wife of former President of Ghana, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ridge Hospital in Accra, aged 76.

President John Dramani Mahama, on behalf of the government, declared three days of national mourning in honour of the former First Lady, which began on Friday and ended yesterday.

During the three-day period of national mourning, all national flags flew at half-mast at all public buildings, diplomatic missions, and government installations throughout the country and abroad.

Various dignitaries, including Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and John Agyekum Kufuor, both former Presidents of the country, had visited the residence of the late former First Lady to sympathise with the family and assured them of their support during this period of mourning.

Tributes had also poured in from across the world in honour of Mrs Agyeman-Rawlings, who is the longest-serving First Lady of Ghana and served as a role model for most young women in the country.
