Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia ended his Bono Regional campaign tour on a high note, following an electrifying reception for him on the last leg of his tour of the region in Sunyani on Friday.

For the past four days, Dr Bawumia has been engaging NPP members of all levels in constituencies across the region.

The massive reception he got on the final day in Berekum East and the two Sunyani constituencies, East and West, reflected the support accorded him in the nine other constituencies he visited earlier: Banda, Tain, Wenchi, Jaman North, Jaman South, Berekum West, Dormaa East, Dormaa West, and Dormaa Central, respectively.

Why Dr Bawumia continues to receive strong backing from NPP MPs

In each of the constituencies, party members, from constituency executives to polling station executives, gave the former vice president warm welcomes and openly declared their unflinching support.

They spoke highly of his committed service to the NPP since emerging as running mate in 2008, his impactful work as vice president, and his support for the party and members across the country.

Many also spoke highly of his personal values, highlighting his humility, selflessness, and respect for all as key attributes the NPP and Ghana require in a leader, hence their continued support for him.

On the tour, Dr Bawumia has been talking about his plan to curb neglect of party members by a future NPP government by instituting a sustainable welfare policy which will see to the interests of party members across constituencies.

First, Dr Bawumia explained that a database would be created for the needs of members in constituencies, and a presidential coordinator would be appointed to liaise with constituency welfare coordinators to ensure that issues are regularly addressed through the database.

“People don’t need the same things. Some need loans to start businesses, some need loans to improve their businesses, some need educational scholarships, some need jobs, some need farming equipment and materials, etc. And you cannot address people’s needs when you don’t know them, so the database will let us know all the issues in all constituencies, and we will be able to address and also monitor who has been assisted and who is yet to be assisted,” Dr Bawumia explained.

This welfare policy, alongside Bawumia’s plan to cede a minimum of 10 appointments to each constituency, has been well received by party members in the region.

“His plan to create a database clearly shows his seriousness and commitment to ensure that none of us is left behind, and I appreciate that,” said a delegate in Berekum.

Overall, it’s been a very successful tour for Bawumia, and fittingly, the best was reserved for the last in the regional capital, Sunyani, where an euphoric reception was accorded the former vice president.
