Former Ghana international Habib Mohammed insists the Black Stars’ recent struggles are not spiritual, saying the team can only thrive with good preparations and determination.

The West African powerhouse fell short to Sudan in the double-header and are on the verge of failing to qualify for CAF’s biggest tournament for the first time since 2004.

The Black Stars played out a 0-0 draw at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by a 2-0 defeat to their opponent at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Libya.

A section of Ghanaians including pastors have attributed the Black Stars’ recent struggles to spiritual connection.

But the former King Faisal defender in an interview with Kessben FM, as followed by Ghanasoccernet.com rejected such claims, saying the Black Stars can only thrive with good preparation.

“Football is all about preparation, determination and what you want to achieve as a team. If you have all these, you can succeed as a team”

“You can attach spiritual matters to the game but for me, everything depends on the mentality of players. People think it is spiritual but for Black Stars to succeed, it’s all about preparation and determination during matches”

The Black Stars will return to action to face Angola and Niger in the final group F games next month (November).

Ghana now need to secure wins against already-qualified Angola and Niger, while hoping that Sudan falters against these same opponents, to keep their chances alive for next year’s tournament in Morocco.
