A Magistrate Court in Kano has ordered the Hisbah Board to formalize the marriage of two popular TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda, within 60 days, following their appearance in viral videos deemed ‘immoral’ by state authorities.

The directive, issued on Monday by Magistrate Halima Wali, stems from a case brought against the duo by the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board.

The board alleged that the videos, which showed the pair engaging in public displays of affection, contravened the state’s moral and religious codes.

According to reports, the court warned that failure to conclude the marriage within the given timeframe would be considered contempt of court.

The Chairman of the Kano State Films and Video Censorship Board was also directed to oversee and ensure the implementation of the ruling.

The viral content had previously led to the arraignment of both individuals, with Idris Mai Wushirya being remanded in custody at one point.

The authorities accused the pair of producing and sharing content considered sexually suggestive and offensive under the state’s decency laws.

Kano, a predominantly Muslim state in northern Nigeria, operates under Sharia law alongside the country’s secular legal system where religious and moral codes are strictly enforced, particularly in matters involving public behavior, relationships, and media content.

The case has sparked widespread debate online, with many questioning the legal and ethical implications of compelling marriage as a form of punishment for social media activity.
