Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says Germany's icon, Manuel Neuer is his idol Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare says Germany’s icon, Manuel Neuer is his idol

Black Stars goalkeeper Benjamin Asare has revealed that Germany’s icon, Manuel Neuer, has been his idol since the early days of his career.

Asare has distinguished himself as the best goalkeeper in the country, earning his place in the senior national team in 2025 following a breakout season with Hearts of Oak in the 2024/25 season.

The late-bloomer has not conceded a goal in the Ghana Premier League this season and has seen only one ball in his net in the World Cup qualifiers.

Asked about his goalkeeping mentor, Asare emphatically stated that Bayern Munich great Neuer has been his inspiration.

“Neuer has always been the goalkeeper that I look up to right from my early days when I was developing my craft,” he said following Ghana’s victory over Comoros.

“The way he kicks, communicates, and generally how he conducts himself within the box is what I wanted to emulate,” he added.

Asare, Ghana’s first-choice shot-stopper, could make his World Cup debut next year in North America after impressing in the qualifiers.
