The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has called on the Multimedia Group to withdraw and apologise for a false statement attributed to the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams.

In a press statement issued on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Ministry described as “fabricated and misleading” a quote widely circulated across Adom TV, Adom Online, Asempa FM, and other affiliated platforms.

The publication claimed that the Minister said, “I will be involved in Black Stars World Cup call-ups, and selections will depend purely on merit and performance.”

According to the Ministry, the Minister never made such a statement during his appearance on Asempa FM’s Ultimate Sports Show or in any related interview.

The statement signed by the Head of Public Relations and Communications, Bagbara Tanko, noted that this was not the first time Multimedia outlets had misrepresented the Minister’s comments.

It added that the Ministry had observed “a pattern of consistent misquoting, twisting of context, and deliberate misinformation” over recent months.

The Ministry warned that such repeated inaccuracies damage its public image, create unnecessary controversy, and mislead the public.

It therefore demanded that Multimedia take three immediate actions- the removal of all content containing the false quote, an official public apology across its major media channels, and an internal review of editorial procedures to prevent similar incidents.

While acknowledging the importance of media freedom, the Ministry reminded Multimedia that responsible journalism requires fact-checking and prompt correction of errors.

The Ministry said it expected the requested actions to be completed by the close of business on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
