There have been calls from football fans and sections of the Ghanaian public for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to suspend its Executive Council Member, Gifty Oware-Mensah, over the National Service Scheme (NSS) scandal.

Gifty Oware-Mensah was officially charged by the Attorney General, Dr Dominic Ayine, with stealing and willfully causing financial loss to the state.

According to the charge sheet sighted by GhanaWeb on Monday, October 13, 2025, she is accused of misappropriating a total of GH¢38,458,248.87 between February 2022 and March 2024 while overseeing finance, audit, and procurement at the NSS.

This follows earlier accusations made by the Attorney General in June 2025, alleging that she used her position at the NSS to siphon millions of cedis in public funds by manipulating payroll records.

In response, some concerned Ghanaians have called on the GFA to strip her of her position as an Executive Council Member.

They argue that the corruption charges she faces tarnish the image of the football association and that the GFA must distance itself from the controversy.

Some have even hinted that if the GFA fails to act, they will submit a petition to the Fedéeation International Football Association (FIFA) to press their demands.

Meanwhile, others have countered that calls for her removal from the GFA Executive Council are premature, emphasizing that being charged does not equate to guilt. They insist that legal proceedings should be allowed to conclude before any action is taken.

    Read the reactions below:

She’s pending investigation and Court proceedings, please suspend her from her position in the GFA. I have never liked this lady after what she did to the “Black Princess”. Jail her and put her in the cell next to Agraada or make them cell mates

Corruption to the highest tune. These people go to Church and praise God but are criminals at government offices but won’t have pity on thieves and on fraudsters.
