Ghana has made a history by making its 5th appearance at the most prestigious football event in the world, the World Cup, a 48 tournament which will be hosted by three countries, The United States of America, Mexico and Canada in 2026.
The Black Stars after failing to qualify for the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco made an amends in the World Cup qualifiers and topped group I with 25 points. They scored an impressive 23 goals, conceded 6 from 10 games, won 8, drew one and lost one.
Jordan Ayew, emerged as the best player of the qualifiers, the experienced forward scored 7 and provided 7 for his team mates. A remarkable goal in Bamako which helped the Black stars 2-1, proved to be the most important of the goals he scored.
A year ago, Jordan Ayew’s standout statistic wasn’t goals or assists — it was that he was the most fouled forward. Quite ironic!
Critics like myself, have been tough on him, and at some point has called for his retirement from the team.
For a player who was often criticized for lacking goals and assists throughout his career, Jordan Ayew’s evolution and his role in powering Ghana to the 2026 World Cup deserve immense commendation. Just as I once called him out, I now want to give him his flowers and congratulate him for this feat.
Jordan, has become the 4th captain to qualify Ghana to the World Cup after Stephen Appiah, 2006, 2010, Asamoah Gyan 2014 and Dede Ayew 2022.
Jordan Has suffered abuse, Jordan has suffered criticism, Jordan has faced it all, a villain who has change the story to be a popular hero,
Jordan didn’t only lead with just the hand band, but backed it with impressive performances and numbers.
