Elder sister of the late Highlife legend Daddy Lumba, Ernestina Fosu and first wife of the late musician Akosua Serwaa has called for the immediate dissolution of the musician’s funeral committee.

The elder sister of Lumba and first wife accused the Funeral planning committee coordinator, former Member of Parliament Collins Owusu Amankwah, of acting without transparency and misleading the public about key issues surrounding the funeral arrangements.

In a detailed statement dated October 10, 2025, and signed by the family secretary on behalf of Lumba’s elder sister, Ernestina Fosu, and his German-based wife, Akosua Serwaa Fosu, the two women described comments made by Collins Owusu Amankwah during a Peace FM interview on October 9, 2025, as “troubling,” especially given his position as a former lawmaker and a member of the funeral committee.

Six key revelations from Fosu family’s letter on Lumba’s marriage and funeral dispute

According to the statement, both women were “shocked and disappointed” by the remarks, which they said showed a lack of care, understanding, and respect for the law.

They argued that as someone who once served in Parliament, Collins Amankwah should have been more cautious and informed in his public commentary on matters involving legal and family sensitivities.

The statement also clarified the legal standing of Akosua Serwaa as the only lawful wife of Daddy Lumba, explaining that the late musician, known privately as Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, had naturalised as a German citizen and married Serwaa under German law.

The family explained that under those laws, he could not have contracted another marriage unless the existing one had been legally dissolved.

Ernestina and Akosua Serwaa further accused Collins Owusu Amankwah and one Abusuapanyin Kofi Owusu of conspiring to fix a date for Lumba’s funeral without informing or consulting the widow or her representatives.

The statement said this move was a sign of disrespect toward the immediate family, who should have been central to such decisions.

“It has also come to our attention that Mr. Collins Owusu Amankwah made reference to a visit to the Office of the President. We wish to clarify that this visit was undertaken solely to request a state burial for the late Mr. Fosuh and to discuss a date convenient for His Excellency, the President, to attend.

“However, what Mrs. Fosu’s family representative was not aware of at the time was that Abusua-Panin Kofi Owusu and his close associates had already decided upon a funeral date without the knowledge or consent of the widow or her representative.

“This predetermined date was later presented to Mr. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff, as if it had been agreed upon by all parties – which was not the case. Out of respect for the office and to avoid public confrontation, the widow’s representative refrained from challenging this misinformation at that moment,” the statement read.

The women also took issue with Collins Owusu Amankwah’s alleged introduction of a man named Ebenezer Oppong as Daddy Lumba’s brother during a visit to the Office of the President.

They stated that the late musician had no brothers, only two sisters, Ernestina and Faustina, who are both still alive.

“In light of these ongoing breaches of trust and transparency, Mrs. Akosua Serwaa Fosu and Ms. Ernestina Fosu are calling for the immediate dissolution of the current funeral committee of which Mr. Collins Owusu Amankwah is a member,” the statement read.

They added that the committee, as currently constituted, had acted in ways that “exclude and mislead the immediate family” and therefore could not be relied upon to handle the arrangements for the late musician’s burial with integrity.

Both women emphasised their commitment to ensuring that Daddy Lumba is remembered with honour and respect.

“We remain committed to ensuring that the legacy of Daddy Lumba is honoured with the respect, truth, and dignity he deserves,” they concluded.
