President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Dramani Mahama were accorded a grand reception upon their arrival in Beijing on October 11, 2025, for a state visit that includes bilateral talks and participation in the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Gender Equality.

The welcoming ceremony featured a ceremonial guard of honour from the Beijing Garrison Honor Guard Battalion, a tri-service unit under the Central Theater Command.

The honour guard, known for its precision and discipline, lined up to greet the Ghanaian delegation.

President Mahama’s arrival was marked by the display of the Ghanaian flag on his official vehicle, as he was escorted by a motorcade through the illuminated streets of Beijing.

A video footage shared by the presidency captured the moment the president and First Lady stepped out to a warm reception, with Ghanaians abroad cheering and holding signs praising Mahama’s “honest and efficient” leadership.

The state visit, confirmed earlier by Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, follows an invitation from President Xi Jinping.

During his stay, President Mahama is scheduled to hold discussions with President Xi and Premier Li Qiang, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and exploring economic opportunities, including potential infrastructure projects like a high-speed railway from Accra to Ouagadougou.
