Former Mexican world champion Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt (42-3-0, 38 KOs) returned to the ring with a victory over Venezuelan Edixon Pérez (30-13-1, 24 KOs) in an event held at the Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas (UAT) gymnasium. The event featured eleven fights and broadcast in nearly 80 countries. Former world champions such as Julio Cesar Chavez, Christian Mijares, Carlos Zarate, Alfonso Zamora, Brandon Figueroa, Erik Morales, Jhonny Gonzalez, Jose Luis Castillo, and many others participated in a special night in honor of Don Jose Sulaiman, the WBC’s lifelong president, who, along with his wife Martha Saldivar, was originally from the state of Tamaulipas.

Berchelt’s victory was cemented in the eighth round when Pérez’s corner decided not to enter the next round, and the victory was awarded to the former Mexican world champion by technical knockout.

Known as “Alacrán” (Scorpion), Berchelt received a commemorative WBC “Reynosa” belt made by Tamaulipas artisans from the hands of the WBC president, Mauricio Sulaimán and the mayor of Reynosa Carlos Víctor Peña Ortiz.
