Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister of Education, has called on the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) to rescind its earlier decision not to participate in the 2025 National Mathematics and Science Quiz (NMSQ) programme.

On Friday, October 3, 2025, CHASS released a statement that “it will not be able to participate in this year’s NMSQ” due to lack of funds.

However, addressing the opening session of the 63rd Annual Conference of CHASS, underway in Sunyani, Mr Iddrisu noted that “the future of our education is about science and mathematics education.”

In that regard, the sector minister said the government had released GH¢9.5 million to Primetime, the organisers of the NMSQ, to cover the arrears of 2023 and 2024 and what was required for the 2025 NMSQ programme quiz.

“I personally edited and supervised the letter which was to go to GETFund for the release of the money, and I am certain that the money has so been released,” Mr Iddrisu stated.

“Therefore, I expect CHASS to fully participate in the NMSQ. Accordingly, we have done our part and, as the government, we will continue to do our part,” he stated.

Earlier, in a welcoming address, the Reverend Father Stephen Owusu Sekyere, President of CHASS, said the Conference recognised with appreciation the commitment of the government to sustaining the nation’s Senior High School education, particularly through the Free SHS policy.
