    A Nigerian man has sparked conversation online after sharing a tale about the emotional cost of waiting too long for a long-distance relationship to materialize into marriage.

    In sharing a lengthy tweet on X (Twitter), the man recounted the painful experience of a sister, who spent nearly a decade waiting for a fiancé who moved abroad.

    According to him, the woman got engaged at 28, just days before her fiancé relocated to the United States.

    In the early years, he supported her efforts to join him, paying for trips to Dubai and Kenya in hopes of improving her visa chances, but after four denials, his interest began to fade.

    He eventually stopped picking up her calls and married a Nigerian woman over there for papers.

    Now she’s 39, facing a harsh reality. Her suitors are few, and those who approach are mostly older men or already married.

    The man used the story as a warning, urging women not to let hope blind them to hard truths.

    A part of his tweet read;

    “This is the bitter truth: once a man leaves, and you cannot join him quickly, end it. Don’t waste your youth waiting for someone building a new life without you. That promise ring will not fight for you, your years will not come, and love that drags for nearly a decade is nothing but slow poison.”
