The female student from KNUST Senior High School featured in a widely circulated video has broken her silence to clarify a key detail: she is 19, not 13 years old as the Ministry of Gender had alleged. This clarification comes amid the fallout from the video, which led to the removal of Assistant Headmaster Charles Akwasi Aidoo by the Ghana Education Service.

The incident has sparked a debate on responsibility and consent. A Member of Parliament, Theophilus Dominic VonDee, has publicly stated that the video evidence suggests a mutually agreed-upon encounter, not coercion. Conversely, a former assistant headmaster of the school has made disparaging remarks about the student’s character, alleging she smokes marijuana and had been disciplined previously.

Countering these justifications, the Gender Minister has reaffirmed the legal principle that adults cannot engage in sexual activity with minors, even if the minor appears to consent. She condemned any excuses for such abuse and confirmed that efforts are underway to have the assistant headmaster arrested, emphasizing the need to protect and support victims.
