Slim Buster (L) says Dancegod Lloyd (R) must add more to his craft to stay fresh in the industry Slim Buster (L) says Dancegod Lloyd (R) must add more to his craft to stay fresh in the industry

Veteran musician Slim Buster has hailed Dancegod Lloyd as a gifted performer but has observed that the dancer’s craft is beginning to feel repetitive.

In an interview on Joy Prime TV, Slim Buster explained that a dancer’s career span is usually short, which is why many dancers eventually fade out if they do not diversify.

According to him, dancers in Ghana must find ways to expand their craft by blending it with music or other creative expressions to stay relevant.

I got carried away working with big artistes, I wasn’t making any bread – Dancegod Lloyd

“Dancers, their lifespan is limited. As a dancer in Ghana, your lifespan is limited, you need to add music. Without music, you’ll be stagnant. There is this guy called Dancegod Lloyd. Dancegod Lloyd is a beautiful dancer but you can see he keeps repeating the same thing. He’s a good dancer. So what he needs to do is to add something to the dancing and that will make it fresh all the time,” Slim Buster stated.

Slim Buster, known for his stagecraft and dance-filled performances, used his career as an example. He recounted how, in the early years of his career, his style influenced several Nigerian artistes who travelled to Ghana to learn how to incorporate dance into their music.

He mentioned the Nigerian duo P-Square as one of the groups who adopted this approach after seeing the impact of dance in hiplife performances.

“Nigerians came to Ghana because of me. Look at P-Square, the tunes they used, they weren’t even dancing at first. But after I went to Nigeria and told them, ‘We have something here,’ they started doing choreography. They came to study our music, because of hiplife,” he added.
