The Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Ghana, Abdel Fattah Al-Satri, on Monday honoured a renowned Ghanaian writer, Dr Wale Okediran, with the Order of Culture, Sciences, and Arts (Creativity Level) award.

This prestigious award is the highest cultural honour granted by President Mahmoud Abbas of the State of Palestine to intellectuals and writers.

The award, signed by the President of State of Palestine, Mamoud Abass, read: “The President of the State Palestine, chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation have decided to award the Distinguish Writer, Wale Okediran, the Order of Culture, Science and Arts level of creativity in recognition of his creative and cultural contributions, his steadfast support for Palestinian culture and the just cause of Palestine and in affirmation of Palestine presence on the global cultural and creative map.”

Presenting the award to Dr Okediran at a short ceremony held in Accra at the premises of Pan African Writers Association, Ambassador Al-Satri said the gesture was to honour Dr Okideran’s contributions to the cultural scene in Ghana and Africa, as well as his commitment to justice and promoting Palestinian culture in Africa.

“We highly appreciate the creative life and career of our friend and writer, Okediran, and his role in establishing the presence of Palestine as a culture and a just cause in the cultural landscape across Africa and the world,” he stated.

The award, he emphasised, also served as a testament to the strong bonds between Palestine and Ghana and Africa at large, and the shared values of freedom, justice, and creativity.

He further condemned the ongoing violence and cultural genocide in Gaza, emphasising the importance of solidarity with the Palestinian people.

He stated that freedom in the world remained incomplete as long as Palestinian people were without freedom.

Ambassador Al-Satri commended President John Dramani Mahama “For his courageous speech at the United Nations in defense of Palestine and in rejecting the genocide in Gaza and all of Palestine” and also for dispatching two containers of relief materials to Palestine.

Receiving the award, Dr Okideran, who is the Secretary-General of the PAWA, expressed gratitude to the ambassador and Palestine for the honour done on him.

Emphasising the importance of collective action and solidarity, Dr Okediran appreciated the members of the association and all individuals who have supported their effort towards achieving this milestone.

Dr Okediran pledged the Association’s continuous commitment to championing and promoting the Palestinian cause.

“This award will give us more energy and passion to continue to support and praise the people of the world and to spread the words of the stars in Palestine,” he assured
