The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has directed the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH), Dr Yakubu Seidu Adam, to refund GH¢113,000 to the state.

The directive follows KBTH’s failure to recover the amount from officers whose negligence led to two separate judgment debts, one involving the death of a patient due to an overdose of medication, and the other concerning the exhumation and reburial of a body after a mix-up of mortal remains.

At PAC’s sitting on Monday, September 29, 2025, the Ranking Member, Samuel Atta Mills, pressed Dr Seidu on efforts to recover the funds.

“We recommended that the Acting Chief Executive Officer should recover the total amount of GH¢113,000 from the officers whose negligence occasioned the payment of judgment debt and have it paid into the Auditor-General’s Recoveries Account at the Bank of Ghana” the PAC co-chair directed.

The committee subsequently gave Dr Seidu 90 days to refund the amount.

“Our Chief Executive Officer, we give you 90 days to pay this GH¢113,000,” Atta-Mills stated.
