Member of Parliament for Klottey Korle, Dr Zanetor Agyemang-Rawlings, has stated that many Ghanaians admire the rapid development of countries like Rwanda, Malaysia, and Singapore, but rarely ask themselves whether they are willing to make the sacrifices those nations made to achieve progress.

Speaking in an interview on Talk No Dey Cook Rice on September 28, 2025, Dr Agyemang-Rawlings explained that while people often cite such countries as examples, they tend to overlook the difficult choices and strict systems that underpinned their transformation.

“What it took to get them where they are; are we prepared to do that?” she asked.

She argued that it is easy to envy the discipline and order in those countries, yet Ghana has not demonstrated the same level of commitment to accountability.

According to her, the real question is whether Ghana is willing to apply strict measures to politicians and public officials who misuse funds meant for critical projects.

“A trader who damages part of an overpass is put in jail for two years, but are we going to do the same to a politician who does the equivalent, where a road should have been built, they got the money, and it wasn’t done?” she said.

Dr Agyemang-Rawlings emphasised that development is not merely about drawing comparisons but about making bold decisions that may be unpopular in the short term but beneficial in the long run.

She urged Ghanaians to reflect on whether the nation is truly ready to enforce discipline, accountability, and the rule of law, even against powerful figures, if it hopes to emulate the success stories it admires.
