The sun shone brightly over the Obuasi Cricket Oval as the community gathered for a special event. The Obuasi Cricket Academy, in partnership with local health organizations, hosted the “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” under the theme “Early Detection Saves Lives.”

As early as 6:00 AM, participants began arriving for the health walk, donning pink attire and carrying banners with inspiring messages. The 5-kilometer walk through the streets of Obuasi aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer and the importance of early detection.

After the walk, participants converged at the cricket oval, where free breast cancer screenings were available. Medical professionals from the Ghana Health Service provided mammograms, clinical breast examinations, and educated attendees on self-examination techniques.

The highlight of the day was the Women’s Bilateral Cricket Match between the UMA team and the Didi Food team. The thrilling match showcased the skills and determination of Ghana’s female cricketers.

Throughout the day, attendees enjoyed music, food, books, and educational presentations on breast cancer awareness. Resource booths offered information on breast health, nutrition, and support services for those affected by breast cancer.

Keynote speaker, Mrs. Ophelia Asiedu Kwarteng, a renowned breast cancer specialist, emphasized the significance of early detection. “Breast cancer is treatable when detected early. Regular screenings and self-examinations can save lives. Let us spread awareness and encourage our loved ones to prioritize their breast health.”

Obuasi Cricket Academy’s Head Coach, Mr. Williams Kanchoba, expressed his pride in hosting the event. “As a cricket academy, we recognize the importance of health and wellness. We’re committed to using our platform to make a positive impact in our community.”

The president of the Obuasi Cricket Academy, Rhyda Amanfo Ofori, added that the event will be held annually to bowl out breast cancer. She also mentioned that the academy is open to the general public and called on all corporations and individuals to come and support the academy. She then thanked the noble sponsors that supported the cause.

As the day drew to a close, attendees reflected on the impact of the event. “I learned so much today,” said participant Ama Mensah. “I’ll make sure to prioritize my breast health and encourage others to do the same.”

The Obuasi Cricket Academy’s “Breast Cancer Awareness Day” was a resounding success, inspiring hundreds to take action against breast cancer. The event reinforced the crucial message: Early Detection Saves Lives.

The event was supported by the Obuasi Government Hospital, Underground Minning Alliance, Didi foods, Mine Union Workers, Toni B Drinking Water, Obuasi Rackets Club, Mr. Syed Aqeel Isar, Mr. Rashid Fusani and Mr. Andrew Browne(Jamaica).
