Defending champions Western Region will face Ashanti Region in a highly anticipated final of the 2025 KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship on Saturday, September 27, at the McDan Teshie Sports Complex.

Both sides are chasing their second title in what promises to be a thrilling showdown of Ghana’s brightest young talents.

Western Region earned their place in the decider with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Central Region in Thursday’s semi-final, thanks to a decisive strike from Ramzy Duah in the 55th minute.

The “Western Show Boys,” who lifted the trophy last year after defeating Eastern Region, are now poised to become the first reigning champions to contest back-to-back finals in the tournament’s history.

Their opponents, Ashanti Region, booked their spot after a dramatic 6–5 penalty shootout win over Greater Accra, following a tense 1–1 draw in regulation time.

Philip Amponsah opened the scoring for Greater Accra, but Alidu Issah netted the equaliser for Ashanti before they held their nerve from the spot. Ashanti will be looking to reclaim the title they first captured in 2023, when they beat Brong Ahafo in an unforgettable final in Kumasi.

This year’s final features a showdown between two former champions, each with a promising squad and a strong desire for glory. With history and the championship title at stake, the McDan Teshie Sports Complex is set to stage an electrifying conclusion to Ghana’s premier youth football tournament.

Elsewhere, Greater Accra will face Central Region in the third-place playoff of the 2025 KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship on Saturday, September 27, at the McDan Teshie Sports Complex, with kickoff scheduled for 1pm local time.

Greater Accra narrowly missed out on a spot in the final after a dramatic 6–5 penalty shootout defeat to Ashanti Region in the semi-finals. They will now aim to cap an otherwise impressive campaign with a podium finish.

Central Region also fell just short of the championship match, suffering a 1–0 loss to defending champions Western Region in Thursday’s second semi-final at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence. Like their Accra counterparts, they will be eager to end their tournament on a high.

Now in its fifth edition, the KGL U-17 Inter-Regional Championship has firmly established itself as Ghana’s premier platform for identifying and nurturing emerging football talent.

The 2025 competition features an expanded 12-team lineup, uniting all ten Regional Football Associations with the two GFA Elite Academies, ensuring both competitive depth and nationwide representation.

Backed by a landmark five-year, $1 million sponsorship from the KGL Foundation, the tournament remains a cornerstone of the Ghana Football Association’s grassroots development strategy, promoting talent identification, safeguarding player welfare and inspiring the next generation of Ghanaian football.
