A forgotten gem from Serie A has reappeared online, reminding football fans of how special Abedi Pelé was in his Torino days.

The video, now trending on social media, captures the Ghanaian legend’s elegant display in Torino’s 2-1 victory over Juventus on Sunday, April 9, 1995.

Though he did not score, Abedi was at the heart of everything Torino created that afternoon.

His dribbling, bursts of pace, and trademark silky touches unsettled a Juventus side packed with world-class names, including Roberto Baggio, Alessandro Del Piero, Didier Deschamps, Antonio Conte, and Ciro Ferrara.

The Derby clash at the Stadio delle Alpi started with Ruggiero Rizzitelli giving Torino the lead after just six minutes.

Juventus equalised in the 23rd minute when Roberto Maltagliati turned the ball into his own net, but Rizzitelli struck again in the 33rd minute to seal a famous 2-1 win.

While Rizzitelli grabbed the goals, it was Abedi’s artistry in midfield that caught the eye.

Torino’s line-up that day featured Gianluca Pessotto, Jocelyn Angloma, and Rizzitelli, while Abedi wore the number 10 jersey with his usual swagger.

His performance against Peruzzi, Baggio, and their company has aged like fine wine, a testament to why he was so highly regarded across Europe in the 1990s.

Abedi had joined Torino in 1994 from Lyon, a year after helping Marseille win the UEFA Champions League.

He went on to make 54 appearances and score 13 goals for the Turin club. By then, he had already won the Africa Cup of Nations with Ghana in 1982 and had been named African Footballer of the Year three times consecutively (1991, 1992, 1993).
