Ghana and Norway have signed a Political Consultations Agreement on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), marking a new chapter in bilateral relations between the two nations.

The agreement, signed on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is aimed at deepening cooperation in key sectors, including oil and gas, trade facilitation, education, agribusiness, artificial intelligence (AI), maritime security, the blue economy, and intelligence sharing.

The signing ceremony was attended by Ghana’s delegation and Norway’s Minister of International Development, Mr. Åsmund Grøver Aukrust, who was commended for his role in finalising the agreement.

Under the deal, both countries have committed to strengthening their partnership while also taking on a global leadership role through their co-chairmanship of the High-Level Panel for a Sustainable Ocean Economy, an international initiative that seeks to promote the responsible use of ocean resources.

Officials described the signing as a milestone that will not only enhance bilateral relations but also position both nations to work closely on shared global priorities, including sustainable development and environmental protection.
