The Labour Division of the High Court in Accra is scheduled to hear two applications filed by eleven West African nationals who are challenging their detention in Ghana after being deported from the United States.

The hearing is set for Tuesday, September 23, 2025, according to a report by citinewsroom.com, on September 22, 2025.

The applicants are seeking two key court orders.

Firstly, they are seeking an interim injunction to stop the government from deporting them to their home countries.

Secondly, they are seeking a writ of Habeas Corpus, which would compel the government to bring them before the court and legally justify their detention.

During a virtual sitting on Thursday, September 18, Justice Priscilla Dikro stated she needed more time to review the applications before issuing a ruling.

Counsel for the applicants, Oliver Barker-Vormawor, argued that the matter was urgent because his clients were being held unlawfully.

According to the defense, President John Dramani Mahama has already announced plans for their deportation, a statement that was also confirmed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
