A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication team, Gabriella Tetteh, has issued a strong warning to illegal miners in the Eastern Region.

She stressed that if they fail to cease their nefarious activities in the Ayensu River, she will mobilise affected communities in the Central Region to fight them back.

During an appearance on Metro TV’s “Good Morning Ghana” on September 22, 2025, Tetteh stated that she was struggling to contain her emotions over the severe impact of illegal mining on the Central Region.

She explained that communities in Agona East, Agona West, Awutu Senya West, Gomoa East, and other areas are suffering from a lack of clean water due to mining activities in the Ayensuano constituency of the Eastern Region.

“The people of Agona East are not mining communities. They are predominantly farmers, traders, and fisher folks,” Tetteh said.

She explained that the Kwanyako Water Works, which supplies water to 13 districts in the Central Region, has been heavily affected by mining at the river source.

Tetteh described the water quality from the taps in Effutu constituency and neighbouring towns as being as thick as “lamugin” (a traditional rice drink), while stressing that this crisis is no fault of the Central Region residents.

“I’m as angry that I may end up inciting Central Region against Eastern Region,” she said, expressing the deep frustration felt by her community.

She directly addressed officials in the Eastern Region, urging the Regional Security Council (REGSEC), the district director, and the District Chief Executive of Ayensuano to take immediate action.

“I’m sending this message into Eastern Region that if they don’t want us on TikTok and social media lambasting them, they should take proactive measures in getting rid of those people at Ayensuano, who are mining in the rivers,” she added.

Tetteh warned that if the situation is not resolved, the people of the Central Region may march into the Eastern Region.

She concluded by stating, “We will not sit down for anybody to put us through this discomfort.”
