President Mahama has vowed to build new stadia in Ghana President Mahama has vowed to build new stadia in Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that plans are underway for the government to embark on the construction of new stadia in 2026.

According to him, the initiative aims to ensure that every region in Ghana has a stadium that is fit for purpose and suitable for football activities.

He also emphasised that the project will improve pitch conditions across the country and promote competitiveness in sports to help unearth more talent.

Speaking at Jubilee House during an engagement with officials from Asante Kotoko and Bibiani Gold Stars ahead of their CAF campaign on September 20, 2025, President Mahama indicated that the project will be included in the national budget for November 2025.

“The finance minister is going to present the budget in November, and I was telling the sports minister and the Director-General of the National Sports Authority that next year we are going to build about seven brand-new stadia,” President Mahama said.

“We want every new region to have a stadium that is fit for purpose so that we can improve playing conditions and make our football more competitive,” he added, as reported by citinewsroom.com.

This forms part of the president’s broader ambition to improve sporting infrastructure in the country, as promised in his manifesto during the 2024 general elections.
