President John Dramani Mahama on Saturday, September 20, 2025, paid a courtesy call on Sheikh Osmanu Nuhu Sharubutu, the National Chief Imam, at his residence at Fadama in Accra.

The president’s visit was ahead of the Maulid (commemoration of the birth of the Prophet Muhammad), which the Chief Imam was scheduled to host on Saturday night.

During the visit, the president told the National Chief Imam that he was there to greet him and to inform him that he would not be able to attend the event because of his scheduled travel.

He explained that he wished he could be around to help welcome the dignitaries from other countries who would be attending the Maulid, but he had to leave Accra for the 80th UN General Assembly.

Mahama also told Sheikh Sharubutu that a delegation would attend the Maulid on his behalf, adding that he had already submitted his donation to support the event.

He disclosed that during the closed-door meeting with the Imam, he was blessed by the Chief Imam.

The president went on to express his gratitude to the Chief Imam for his support and wished him a long life.

He also prayed for a successful Maulid.
