General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, has dismissed claims that he intends to contest for the party’s national chairmanship position.
In a statement shared on social media by his aide, Kwetey said he remains focused on his mandate as General Secretary, a role he was overwhelmingly endorsed to occupy by party executives at all levels.
“Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey has no ambition of becoming the party’s Chairman, either now or in the foreseeable future. Kindly disregard the rumours and polls in circulation that featured him in the Chairmanship category,” the statement read.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening party cohesion, ensuring political effectiveness, and contributing to Ghana’s economic development.
The clarification follows speculation and opinion polls suggesting he was eyeing the chairmanship, amid reports that current National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia could contest the NDC flagbearership after John Mahama’s exit in 2028.
