President Donald Trump is ready for heads to roll at the Justice Department unless someone charges New York Attorney General Letitia James with a crime.
ABC News reported on Thursday night that Trump is expected to fire U.S. Attorney Erik Siebert after he was unable to find evidence that New York Attorney General Letitia James committed mortgage fraud.
DOJ prosecutors in Virginia could not find clear evidence to charge James with a criminal offense relating to when she purchased a home in the state in 2023.
Regardless, sources tell ABC that Trump officials have pressured Siebert to bring charges against James nonetheless.
After failing to follow through with the president’s wishes, administration officials reportedly informed Siebert that his last day on the job will be Friday.
Trump’s hatred for James dates back to when the New York attorney general successfully sued the Trump Organization for fraud.
The president’s business was found liable for deceiving banks by overvaluing his assets and network to secure generous loan agreements.
Judge Arthur Engoron ordered Trump’s business to pay a $354 million fine; however, a New York appeals court overturned the giant payout last month.

The mortgage fraud investigation into James started in April after the director of the Federal House Finance Agency, Bill Pulte, sent a criminal referral to the DOJ.
‘I believe this is riddled with mortgage fraud, and frankly, I think that’s why she knew so much about the law in terms of how to go after President Trump,’ Pulte said on Fox News in August. ‘She was the fraudster, not President Trump.’
Trump officials accused James of falsely claiming her Virginia property was her primary residence on a financial document relating to her 2023 home purchase.
James is legally required to live in the state of New York as an elected official.
‘Letitia James, a totally corrupt politician, should resign from her position as New York State Attorney General, IMMEDIATELY,’ Trump wrote on Truth Social in April. ‘Everyone is trying to MAKE NEW YORK GREAT AGAIN, and it can never be done with this wacky crook in office.’
Siebert was nominated by the president for the position back in May. However, the administration now plans to replace him with a U.S. attorney who will more aggressively investigate James.
Siebert’s firing comes as Democratic and liberal critics of the president claim the DOJ is being used to target Trump’s political foes.
