The battle over presidential term limits at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has now moved to the international stage, with King Faisal petitioning the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to annul the outcomes of the association’s recently held 31st Ordinary Congress.

At the congress, delegates voted in favour of an amendment that extends the GFA presidency from a maximum of two terms to three, effectively opening the door for incumbent Kurt Okraku to seek a third mandate.

The move has been fiercely criticised by sections of Ghana’s football community, who view it as a reversal of governance reforms introduced in the aftermath of the 2018 “Number 12” corruption exposé.

King Faisal, who had earlier secured a High Court injunction in a bid to halt the motion, has now escalated the matter to CAS.

According to reports by Sporty FM, the club is seeking a ruling to declare the congress results invalid, while also asking the international tribunal to bar Okraku from contesting any potential third term.
