Renowned comedian and social commentator, Kwaku Sintim-Misa, popularly known as KSM, has criticised the NDC following claims by its General Secretary, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, that some officials are negotiating plea bargains for suspects ‘nabbed’ under the anti-corruption initiative ORAL (Operation Recover All Loot).
Speaking on his YouTube channel, KSM argued that, if these claims are true, ORAL would transform from a tool to recover misappropriated public funds into a mechanism that rewards looters.
“ORAL initially stood for Operation Recover All Loot. But based on what Fiifi Kwetey has said, it is starting to sound like Operation Reward All Looters.
“If somebody steals so much money from the country that it becomes a campaign promise to recover the loot, and we hear that suspects are allowed to do plea bargains so they can walk away, then it becomes Operation Reward All Looters,” he said.
No political party has the will to stop galamsey – KSM asserts
He contended that a campaign promise to recover stolen funds loses its value if suspects are allowed to walk away through plea bargains.
He urged President John Dramani Mahama to take decisive action to prevent such outcomes.
Addressing Fiifi Kwetey, KSM said, “If you know of people in the NDC who are cutting deals to reward the looters, please name and shame them because we can’t take this for a joke.”
According to KSM, evidence should lead to at least temporary detention, even if for three months, to demonstrate that wrongdoing has consequences.
KSM’s remarks came after Fifi Kwetey, at the 5th Annual General Conference of NDC Lawyers, alleged that some government officials are quietly undercutting the government’s anti‐corruption stance by trying to negotiate deal‐cutting arrangements with suspects who should instead face full prosecution.
Fifi Kwetey, while not naming individuals, warned against internal sabotage of ORAL, and called on party lawyers and others to desist from “deal‐making” that undermines justice.
