The Ashanti Regional branch of the pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) group, Bold Patriotic Alliance, has declared its support for former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, urging delegates to elect him as the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
The declaration was made at Abuakwa in the Ashanti Region during Dr Bawumia’s campaign tour of the Atwima Nwabiagya constituency, part of his bid to lead the NPP once again.
Dr Bawumia has concluded a three-day campaign tour of the Ashanti Region. The NPP’s defeated flagbearer in the 2024 elections is seeking re-election to lead the party into the 2028 polls.
On Wednesday, September 10, 2025, he began his regional tour to rally support from delegates for his comeback bid.
At Abuakwa, where he met with delegates from the zone, members of the Bold Patriotic Alliance openly declared their endorsement.

The group maintained that Dr Bawumia stands out among all candidates who have filed nomination forms to contest the party’s primaries.
Acheampong Takye Desmond, Executive Secretary of the group, told GHOne News that Dr Bawumia is the only candidate Ghanaians trust to lead the country after President Mahama’s tenure ends.
“What we, the Bold Patriotic Alliance, are saying is that come January 31, 2026, we want all delegates voting in the NPP’s presidential primaries to vote for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.
He explained, “President Mahama has announced his intention to seek re-election in 2028, which means the NDC will present a new candidate who must be marketed to Ghanaians. Unlike Dr Bawumia, who has already been marketed as Vice President for eight years, flagbearer in 2024, and running mate in the 2008, 2012, and 2016 elections.”
He added, “Currently, with Dr Bawumia as the NPP’s flagbearer for the 2028 elections, the party would only need a 9% swing to reclaim power from the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC). That’s why we say, ‘Aka 9 pɛ na yaba power.’”
The group’s Secretary, Francis Adu Owusu, also stated that after reviewing the campaign messages of all aspirants, they are convinced that Dr Bawumia’s vision for constituency and party development is unmatched.
“We strongly believe that Dr Bawumia’s plan for delegates and grassroots development will transform the party if given the opportunity to lead. He has assured us that if elected and he wins the 2028 general elections, each constituency will receive 10 appointments. This means grassroots supporters will have leaders to turn to for support, strengthening the party at the base. We, the bulls on the ground, believe Dr Bawumia is the right man for the job,” he said.
Another member, Abdul Raman Wadugu, noted that although other aspirants held various positions in the previous NPP administration, none can match Dr Bawumia’s achievements.
