Activist and lawyer Oliver Barker-Vormawor has revealed that he endured severe hardship and mistreatment under the former government, recounting moments when he feared for his life.

In a post on his official X page on Saturday, September 13, 2025, Barker-Vormawor described his ordeal as “hell,” adding that his decision to speak out is driven by a desire to protect other Ghanaians from experiencing similar suffering.

“Yes, I went through hell. Many times, I felt I was going to die at the hands of the former Government,” he stated.

He further explained that his decision to speak publicly is motivated not by an absence of pain but by a deliberate choice to pursue hope.

“I speak up today, so no Ghanaian will ever have to go through what I went through. Not because I don’t carry pain. But because I am choosing hope,” he indicated.

His remarks add to the growing conversation around the treatment of dissenting voices in Ghana’s political space, with civil society organisations previously expressing concern over harassment and intimidation of activists.
