Guinness World Record holder Hilda Baci is undertaking another historic cooking feat; this time, she is attempting the world’s largest pot of jollof rice.

The event, scheduled to last 16 hours, began on Friday, September 12, at Muri Okunola Park.

The venue was initially set for Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos, but was moved due to overwhelming public interest.

While there is currently no official Guinness World Record for the largest pot of jollof rice, the feat has been attempted before. At Afrochella 2019, a group of Ghanaians reportedly cooked a pot large enough to feed 200 people.

For her attempt, Baci intends to use:

250 bags of rice, weighing approximately 5,278 kilograms

    1,583 kilograms of tomato paste

The custom-built pot measures 6 meters wide, 1.1 meters tall, and 1.3 meters deep.

The event, titled “The World Jollof Festival with Hilda Baci,” is livestreaming across major social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

In a video posted on Instagram on Wednesday, September 10, Hilda Baci stated that over 20,000 people have registered to attend, far exceeding initial expectations and prompting the change of venue.

“We put out a link for people to register to attend the event, and to my greatest surprise, over 20,000 people registered,” she said.

She added, “Your safety and comfort are very important to us, which is why we decided to move to Muri Okunola Park to accommodate more people.”

Hilda Baci, who gained global fame after her Guinness World Record-breaking cook-a-thon in 2023, expressed deep gratitude to her supporters.

“It means so much to me, and I don’t take it for granted. Who am I that you guys really care about what I am doing?” she added.
